Fiske Families,

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10! Please join me in thanking our teachers for the amazing work they do for our Fiske Falcons! 

Join us for the 2024 Fiske S.T.E.A.M. Fair on Sunday, May 5th @ 4-5:30 pm in the Fiske gymnasium

We have over 40 Fisketastic students who will be sharing their S.T.E.A.M. projects this weekend! Come join us to see their discoveries and celebrate the many ways that everything we do combines Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math! 

Join us on Wednesday, May 8th for Music Around the World. The popularity of this concert has outgrown the size of our gym! Given our limited capacity, we will hold two performances. The performances will be:

• Families of grades K-2 students –  8:45-9:45a.m.

• Families of grades 3-5 students – 10:45-11:45a.m.  

Please come to only 1 of the performances as both are the identical shows and we want to have enough room for all who want to enjoy the concert.

Student Placement 2024-2025

As we look forward to next year, we are starting the student placement process.  During this process your child’s teacher will meet with the placement team that includes special educators, ELL teachers, Math and Literacy Specialists, school psychologist, school social worker/adjustment counselor and principal to determine class placement. Only if you have essential information to share relative to your child’s placement that is either new, or your child’s teacher may not be aware of, do you need to send me an email (mcgregorr@wellesleyps.org) by Wednesday, May 15th.  An email is not required for your child/children as our placement team will collaborate to assure each child is in a compatible class with at least one friend.  Please know, we do not accept requests for teachers. For students who are moving to Hunnewell, we will be consulting with the Hunnewell staff on placement.

Thank you to our Fifth graders who worked incredibly hard on their math MCAS this week.  Next week our fourth grade students will be taking Math MCAS on Monday, May 6th and Tuesday, May 7th. It was wonderful to see our Fiske Falcons return on Monday. We will have our next walk to school day on Wednesday, May 1st. Come join the fun!

The Music Around the World concert is on May 8th! All Fiske students will perform a song and dance from one of seven countries. The popularity of this concert has outgrown the size of our gym! Given our limited capacity, we will hold two performances. The performances will be:

• Families of grades K-2 students –  8:45-9:45a.m.

• Families of grades 3-5 students – 10:45-11:45a.m.

If you have children in both the K-2 and 3-5 groupings,  choose one performance to attend. Both performances will be identical.

Fiske Families,

Thank you to our amazing teachers for hosting conferences over the last two weeks.  These conferences take time to prepare in order to provide parents and guardians with information about their child’s academic and social emotional growth. Our teachers are truly Fisketastic.

Thank you to Scott Barton for coming to school to share his musical robots with our students.  The students enjoyed learning how to program robots to play a multitude of instruments.  It was amazing!

Student Council

The student council is planning an all school assembly celebrating the diversity of our Fiske community.  As part of this assembly the Student Council is creating a video that includes all of our students and staff.  The Student Council would like to invite families of our students and staff to email a picture of a family celebration, tradition or activity to include in the video. If you would like to share a photo then please email it to Mrs. McGregor at mcgregorr@wellesleyps.org. The deadline for all photos has been changed to Monday, April 8th at 9:00 a.m.  For confidentiality reasoning this video will not be shared outside of the school.

A note from our Nurse

Over the past few weeks we have been seeing an increase in students with Strep Throat. When left untreated, Strep is contagious to others. Symptoms include: sudden onset of throat pain, painful swallowing, red/ swollen tonsils, fever, nausea.

If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, please keep them home and have them evaluated by a doctor. They will need to be on antibiotics for 24 hours and have improving symptoms before returning to school.

Fiske Families,

Thank you to Jennifer Cohn and Jennifer Heintzelman for planning the 80s parent social last Friday night. It was an amazing event that brought many of us back to the days of neon, sparkles and track suits. 

No iPhones or Smartwatches

Please be reminded that students are not allowed to have smartwatches or phones in the classrooms. As noted on page 19 in the  if a cell phone or smartwatch is used in school:

First time- The principal will hold the cell phone or smartwatch  for the rest of the day and the student will pick it up in the office.  Parents will be notified. 

Second time– The principal will hold the cell phone or smartwatch  for the rest of the day and the parent will be asked to pick it up at their convenience.

Third time- The principal will hold the cell phone or smartwatch for the rest of the day and meet with the parents to develop a plan

The WHS Diversity Club is hosting an International Women’s Day event on Saturday, March 16th from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. in the WHS Cafeteria. Come enjoy lunch, crafts, and musical performances. After School STEM Classes

Walk to School Day

Please join us for our March Walk/Roll to school day on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.  All children are invited to participate.  Students who ride a bus will also be able to join in the fun by walking two times around the marked area on the back field. The field is wet so it is  suggested that children bring boots or a second pair of shoes if they will be walking the field route.
